Welcome to Yonkers

Settled along the edge of the Hudson River and overlooking the stunning palisades, Yonkers is an ethereal urban landscape where incredible natural vistas and progressive developments continue to create a one-of-a-kind city just a few miles north of Manhattan. The largest town in Westchester County, New York—and the fourth largest city in the state—Yonkers is boarded on its western edge by Mt. Vernon and is considered an inner suburb of New York City.

Its early colonizers were Dutch, and the city’s rich history is evidenced by its many historical buildings and sites. Originally a small farming town with an industrial riverfront, Yonkers was incorporated in 1872. Since then, it has blossomed into a diverse metropolis of its own that is home to several large industry leaders, such as Kawasaki, MindSpark, and ContraFect Corp.

From storybook homes nestled along the river with spectacular views, to luxury apartments near the heart of the city, to traditional, single-family Colonial homes and condos, Yonkers has an abundance of residential housing options that, in many ways, stems from its bustling diversity. The city is also constantly changing—as more of Saw Mill River is uncovered, or “daylighted,” after being buried beneath parking lots, its natural beauty shifts and elevates with it.

Yonkers is diverse and ever-growing, making it the perfect location for all walks of life. Not quite as energetic as New York City itself, Yonkers maintains its urban feel while still emanating the unique charm that comes from its friendly population and nature-heavy setting. Nearly a quarter of the population is under 18, which accounts for its expanding school system and makes it an excellent option for families.
